Hello and happy women’s history month!
I thought I'd kick off this month with a newsletter dedicated to all the wonderful women who help me get through the tough days and celebrate both mine and baby's milestones. I can’t get through this wild ride of motherhood without you.
To all the new moms who are also in the trenches and are always there to hype you up when needed, and whose texts are always so supportive and helpful even though they are 8 hours apart because we are all too busy to get back to each other right away.
To our moms and grandmas who are always eager to babysit and lovingly give their unsolicited advice. And even though we will never agree on whether the baby needs to wear socks, we love them anyway.
To the moms in between who are past the newborn stage and reminisce on those early years fondly and happily share the mistakes they learned from so we can heed their advice as our kids turn into toddlers. To the mamas who have three kids that are old enough to sometimes talk back, and will forgive you when some days you admit you don’t love every moment of motherhood.
To the new mom friends, who perhaps you didn't know very well or may have lost touch with but became a lifeline and sounding board when you both had kids a few weeks apart. Now you're hoping your babies can meet one day and be friends.
To the sisters, sisters from another mister, and sisters-in-law with whom you can share all sorts of adorable baby pictures and random musings and know they get that you just want to share with someone and feel most comfortable doing so with them. To the ones who you call, crying on the phone because that morning was too much, and they leave work and come right over with wine to sit on the couch and fold laundry with you.
And last but not least, to the wonderful women who are not moms but are there at any time for a phone call, to take you to brunch, discuss their personal lives, and remind you that you’re still the fun, interesting gal you were pre-baby. To the ones that may be too far away for a visit, but close enough to still make you laugh-cry on the phone reminiscing about bygone trips you took together many moons ago.
And to all of you, who encouraged me to write this newsletter and continue to read and share week over week.
Celebrate each other this women’s history month. Pick up the phone, send the text, write the email, deliver the just-thinking-of-you coffee, and tell the women in your life how much you love and appreciate them.
A weekly roundup of personal tips and helpful finds
The concierge mom phenomenon: Why parents hire 'moms' for college kid. No need to worry about your kid going out of state to college in 18 years, you can hire a proxy mom to take care of them! (USA Today)
Follow: @Handmethefork on Instagram. I’ve become obsessed with private chef cooking videos and this account is my favorite. Something about the combination of home cooked meals and the multi-million dollar home interiors in the background leads me down the rabbit hole.
4 of Victoria Beckham’s Daily Wellness Hacks. I rediscovered my love of Posh Spice with the Beckham documentary of Netflix, and I’m fascinated by her health and wellness routine. (Vogue)
Kid’s Book Rec: 8 Little Planets: A Solar System Book for Kids. This is probably my favorite book to read to my son. Colorful, full of facts and feelings, and with some fun cutouts. It makes me smile every time.
Cook: Fish Tacos. The apocalyptically warm days we had this week reminded me of summer, so we made these delicious and easy fish tacos. We used Mahi Mahi we found at Costco, but any white fish like tilapia will do.
This week’s mom win come to us from Victoria S.
After a few weeks of stranger danger in which our 7-month old would cry whenever he was held by someone else, we went to a birthday party this weekend and he was so social! He let all his aunties hold him and seemed to enjoy himself.
Each week we’ll feature a mom win from one of our readers. If you have a win you’d like to share, please leave a comment below and we will feature you in an upcoming issue.
